Bupa Global Elite is the top-but-one of five tiers in Bupa Global's international health plans: it carries a GBP 3,000,000 overall annual maximum and is the first tier to add maternity and assisted fertility, but it is not the highest. Bupa Global's plans are international cover, separate from the Bupa policies sold for treatment in the UK. If you are choosing between international cover and a UK policy, the form on this page lines up a phone conversation with an FCA-authorised broker, which costs you nothing. The rest of this page is about what Elite adds, where it stops, and what to ask before you choose between it and its neighbours.

What Elite adds over Premier

Bupa Global's April 2026 Global Health Plans brochure (the cover is dated April 2026; read 29 October 2026) compares the tiers benefit by benefit. Elite and Premier share the same area-of-cover choices, so the gap between them is in limits and in a few benefits Premier does not have at all. The figures below are the brochure's sterling limits for each policy year unless stated; the brochure says "The currency in which you pay your premium is the currency that will apply to your health plan for the purposes of benefit limits."

BenefitPremierElite

Maternity (18 month waiting period)Not coveredGBP 10,000 each delivery, with separate limits for pre- and post-natal treatment and complications
Assisted fertility treatment (18 month waiting period)Not coveredGBP 6,000

Two readings follow. The out-patient day to day limit more than triples from Premier to Elite, which matters most to someone who expects regular out-patient care, and Elite is the first tier where a family expecting a child or considering fertility treatment finds a benefit at all. The waiting periods matter as much as the limits: a benefit with an 18-month wait is no use to someone who needs it in the first year.

The brochure's price row also prints a multi-person policy discount (10% for two people, 15% for three or more) against Select and Premier but "None" against Elite. Treat that as a point to check on your own quote rather than a rule you can plan around.

Where Elite sits among the Bupa Global plans

The brochure describes the ladder in one line each. Major Medical "Covers in-patient, cancer treatment, medical evacuation and repatriation"; Select adds "Fuller in-patient cover with basic wellness benefits including health check-up and vaccinations"; Premier "Covers in- and out-patient plus increased wellbeing benefits". Elite is described as "Increased benefit limits across out-patient and in-patient, plus maternity and assisted fertility", and Ultimate as "No overall annual limit".

The tiers do not simply rise in order of annual maximum. Major Medical's GBP 2,000,000 is higher than Select's GBP 1,000,000 or Premier's GBP 1,500,000, because it is built as in-patient cover: out-patient day to day care is not covered on it. Anyone comparing the Select, Premier and Major Medical names should read the benefit rows, not the label.

If you came looking for "Bupa Global Gold", that name does not appear among the five tiers in the April 2026 brochure. If a policy or an old document uses it, the membership guide that came with that policy is what applies, and Bupa Global can confirm what that policy covers today.

What Ultimate has that Elite does not

Ultimate is the step above. Bupa Global's UK plans page offers it through Private Client by Bupa: "When you choose Private Client by Bupa, you'll be covered by the Ultimate Global Health Plan". In the brochure it differs from Elite in these ways:

  • no overall annual limit, against Elite's GBP 3,000,000;
  • unlimited out-patient day to day care, against GBP 50,000;
  • health screening of GBP 5,000 with no waiting period, against Elite's GBP 1,500 after 10 months;
  • maternity paid in full, rather than GBP 10,000 each delivery;
  • a standard private suite rather than a standard private room;
  • children under 16 at no extra cost, two for each insured parent on the plan, where the parent has legal custody and the child lives with them, subject to underwriting;
  • non-medical evacuation in conflicts and natural disasters, which the brochure shows as not covered on Elite.

The same UK page adds a dedicated Lifecare Concierge Manager for Ultimate members. Whether those extras are worth the extra cost is a question only a Bupa Global quote can settle.

What Elite does not cover, and where it is conditional

The brochure lists exclusions that apply across every plan, then extra ones per tier. For Elite the extra list reads: "Certain types of Chinese medicine; Treatment equipment or surgery to correct eyesight; Sleep disorders; Treatment for or related to gender dysphoria*", with an asterisk meaning "unless eligibility criteria has been met".

The all-plans list opens with the one that shapes most buying decisions: "Pre-existing conditions, unless you have applied for cover that includes a medical loading to cover these conditions." So an Elite policy does not automatically include conditions you already have; whether they are covered depends on the terms Bupa Global offers you after it reviews your medical history, and the loading, if any, appears on your quotation. The same brochure also says plans include cover for chronic conditions diagnosed after you enrol and for hereditary or congenital conditions diagnosed after enrolment. How pre-existing conditions work in more detail is set out on the Bupa Global quote page, so it is not repeated here.

Dental and optical benefits sit in the same brochure table for Premier and Elite; the plan limits and their waiting periods are the subject of the Bupa Global dental cover page.

Choosing a Bupa Global tier: questions to settle first

  1. Will you use out-patient care regularly? If not, Major Medical or Select may fit the use you expect better than Elite; if so, the out-patient limits above are the row to compare.
  2. Is a child or fertility treatment possible in the next few years? Elite is the first tier with either, and both carry an 18-month wait.
  3. Which area of cover do you want? The brochure offers worldwide, or worldwide without the U.S., with Select, Premier and Elite also offering Europe (including the UK) as a third choice. The 28 days of emergency U.S. cover is listed for the worldwide without U.S. option only.
  4. What deductible will you carry? For Elite the brochure lists no deductible, GBP 2,000, GBP 5,000, GBP 7,500 or GBP 10,000 on all benefits except out-patient day to day care, which has its own choice of none, GBP 250, GBP 500 or GBP 1,000; Ultimate is shown with no deductible. A higher deductible usually brings a premium down, but you pay that much before the policy does.
  5. Do you still need UK cover? The two products are priced and worded separately; Bupa Global compared with Bupa UK sets out the difference.

Before settling on a tier, ask Bupa Global for the membership guide for that plan: the brochure says it is "intended as a summary comparison" and that full benefits, limitations and exclusions are in the relevant guide. A Bupa Global quote itself comes from Bupa Global.

Bupa Global Elite price: what is published

The April 2026 brochure prints benefit limits rather than premiums: its price row carries the multi-person discount noted above and whether children are covered at no extra cost, and it offers a choice of pricing frequency and deductible. Bupa Global's UK plans page offers an estimated quote online instead. The premium comes from a quote built on your country of residence, ages, area of cover, tier and deductible. Price ranges for UK health insurance do not carry across, because Elite is a different product. The wider picture on international premiums is on what international health insurance costs.
