Searching for a Bupa price list usually means one of four things, and only one of them is the price of health insurance. The others are the fees Bupa agrees to pay specialists, the price of a treatment you would pay for yourself, and a dentist's charges. This page sorts them, then takes the one you are probably deciding on: what a Bupa policy's price is built from. No premium on this page carries Bupa's name, because Bupa prices each policy on the people it covers. The figure that answers your question is a quote priced on your age, your postcode and the cover you choose. To have one worked out, complete the form on this page. That puts you in touch with an FCA-authorised broker able to ask Bupa and several rival insurers for a figure in a single conversation.
The four Bupa price lists people are looking for
Bupa is several businesses under one name, each with its own kind of price.
| What you are pricing | What sets the figure | Where this site deals with it |
|---|---|---|
| A Bupa health insurance policy (the premium) | Priced on the people covered: age, location, excess, hospital list, out-patient cover, add-ons, medical history | The next section, and Bupa's average monthly cost |
| Bupa's schedule of fees for consultants and procedures | What Bupa will pay a specialist or hospital for treating a member | Below, under fee schedules |
| A treatment bought outright, such as a tummy tuck, a health check or a weight-loss drug | The provider's own self-pay price, paid by you, with no insurance involved | Below, and private versus the NHS |
| A Bupa Dental Care practice | Each practice's own fee list | Bupa dental cover |
The first row is a premium, paid whether or not you claim; the other three are bills for treatment. Mixing them up is how a search leaves the wrong number in your head: an operation's price is not what a year of cover costs.
Some searches are for none of these. Cheap movie or Hoyts tickets, zoo tickets and flights are member perks rather than a price for cover, and they do not change what a policy costs. Bupa's discounts and offers sorts which offers belong to a UK policy.
Bupa prices for health insurance in the UK: what the number is built from
A list price for a Bupa policy would not help much even if one were printed: a premium is quoted on the person, so two people asking "how much does Bupa cost" on the same day can get figures far apart.
So that a price question does not go unanswered, here is where the UK market as a whole sits. It is no insurer's price, Bupa's included. As an indicative idea only, and not a quote, mid-range cover with an out-patient allowance and a moderate excess tends to land roughly between £40 and £80 monthly for one person aged 40 to 49, so £480 to £960 over a year, and roughly £60 to £120 monthly for one person in their fifties. Yours could fall outside both bands; the lower end is not a promise. The exact figure, from Bupa or anyone else, comes from a quote on your own details, which the broker reached through this page will obtain for you without charge. Rows for other ages and households are on what health insurance costs in the UK.
What turns a quote up or down is a short list of choices, and on a Bupa policy you can see several of them in the wording itself.
- The excess. The Bupa By You guide works an example in which a £100 excess is paid on a physiotherapy claim and not paid again on further treatment within that year. One excess a year, then, rather than one a claim (more on Bupa's excess). Across the market, choosing a higher excess usually brings the premium down; how far is for a quote to show.
- The out-patient allowance. The same guide qualifies a sentence about its Direct Access phone and video assessments with "if either of these apply to your policy", meaning an excess and an outpatient benefit allowance. Neither is guaranteed to be on a given policy, so both are settings, not fixed features. A lower out-patient limit generally reduces the premium, and the cost is that consultations and tests past the limit become yours to pay. Both this clause and the excess example are quoted in full on why Bupa costs what it does.
- The hospital list. A narrower list of hospitals tends to cost less. How Bupa arranges its lists is for Bupa's hospital lists.
- Add-ons. Dental Cover 20 is a named add-on in the same guide (page 25): the membership certificate shows whether you have it, and Bupa dental cover quotes the clause. A quote with it and a quote without it are prices for two different policies.
- You. Age, where you live, who else is on the policy, and the underwriting route, which decides how your medical history is treated.
Other insurers build their prices from the same parts but word them their own way. Vitality's terms cover consultant appointments after a GP referral "up to the limit shown on your membership certificate", and Aviva's Healthier Solutions terms (April 2025 issue) describe a reduced out-patient option with a £0 limit, under which out-patient consultations and tests are not covered. Two quotes are only comparable once the out-patient line on each says the same thing.
That makes the useful request a specific one: Bupa priced at two excess levels and with the out-patient allowance set two ways, beside another insurer on matching settings. A broker can set that up from a single set of details, and it costs you nothing to ask.
The cheapest Bupa cover, and why a cheap quote can mislead
"Cheapest Bupa cover" and "why is Bupa so cheap" are both searched, and the answer to each is usually the same: a low figure is a policy with things taken out of it. A high excess, little or no out-patient cover and a short hospital list each tend to lower a premium, and each moves cost from the insurer to you at the moment you claim.
That is fine as a choice: some buyers want cover for the large in-patient bill and will pay for an early consultation themselves. The trouble is a quote that looks cheap because a setting was left at its leanest without anyone saying so. Before treating a figure as Bupa's cheapest hospital cover, read four lines on it: excess, out-patient limit, hospital list, underwriting route.
The other cause of a figure that looks low is the product itself. A health cash plan is a different product from health insurance: as a class, it pays fixed sums back towards everyday costs rather than funding private hospital treatment, so its price and a policy's are not comparable. If the figure you saw came from a cash plan, it was not a price for medical insurance; Bupa health cash plans covers the difference.
Bupa's schedule of fees, fee-assured consultants and cost codes
Searches for a "Bupa schedule of fees", "Bupa cost codes" or a "Bupa price list for operations" are usually after a document on the other side of the transaction: what an insurer pays the hospitals and consultants who treat its members, not what a member pays for cover. Whatever such a schedule says Bupa pays for a procedure, that figure is not the price of your policy, and it does not tell you what you would pay at the hospital either.
Where it touches a member is the gap. In the market generally, if a consultant charges more than the insurer will pay for a procedure, the difference can fall to the patient. The phrase "fee assured" comes up in the same searches, and what it means for your bill turns on Bupa's own terms, so put the question it points at to Bupa directly before any treatment: will this consultant's fees be met in full, is the treatment authorised, and would any part of the bill be mine? Bupa's own consultant finder is where to look up a named specialist.
Bupa tummy tuck prices, Mounjaro and other treatments you pay for yourself
A tummy tuck, or any cosmetic procedure, is priced by the clinic that does it, and the policy wording shows why an insurance policy is the wrong place to look for that price. Exclusion 10 of the Bupa By You guide is headed "Cosmetic, reconstructive or weight loss treatment", and it excludes treatment that "is to change your appearance" even where there is a medical or psychological reason for it (Bupa policy guide, BINS 14718, page 30, 2024 edition, read 4 September 2026). The clause is quoted on Bupa's exclusions. So a tummy tuck for appearance is bought outright at the clinic's own cash price, whoever's name is over the door, and that figure is a treatment cost, not a cost of cover.
The same heading covers weight-loss treatment, which is where searches for Bupa prices for Mounjaro land. Whether a particular Bupa policy pays anything towards weight-loss medicines depends on its terms, so budget for Mounjaro as a self-pay cost unless Bupa confirms in writing that yours does; if you would rather not chase that alone, the broker who rings back from the form can explain what to check, free of charge.
Other treatments that turn up in these searches each have a home elsewhere on the site:
- Dental work (fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, Invisalign, whitening, the Smile plan): Bupa Dental Care practices set their own fees, and dental cover is an optional add-on to the policy rather than part of every one. See Bupa dental cover.
- Scans, mammograms and other tests: Bupa scans and diagnostics.
- Operations priced against the NHS, such as ACL repair, kidney stone removal or circumcision: private versus the NHS, and for hospital self-pay prices in general, private hospital price lists.
- A full health check or GP appointment: Bupa private GP access.
Questions people ask about Bupa's prices
How much is Bupa health insurance per month, or per year?
No Bupa premium appears on this page, because Bupa's figure depends on your age, postcode and settings. The only premium figures here are indicative ranges for the UK market as a whole, and a yearly figure is exactly twelve monthly ones. Ask for both on the same quote, and ask whether paying monthly changes the total.
What is Bupa health insurance, and what is Bupa healthcare?
Bupa health insurance is private medical insurance: it pays for private diagnosis and treatment of eligible conditions that arise after you join, within the limits and exclusions of your policy. "Bupa healthcare" usually means the wider set of services under the name, including dental practices and health centres, which are separate from the insurance. For what the policy includes, see what Bupa covers.
How much is full Bupa cover?
There is no single "full" level with one price attached. A policy with a low excess, generous out-patient cover, a wide hospital list and add-ons will cost more than a lean one, but how much more is only shown by a quote with those settings written on it.
Are pre-existing conditions covered by Bupa?
The guide says conditions you had before your policy started "aren't usually covered", and that where a special condition applies Bupa confirms it to the main member in writing (BINS 14718, page 11). Which of yours would be excluded depends on the underwriting route; Bupa underwriting explains the routes.
What does Bupa Select cover, and what does it cost?
Cover and cost under any named Bupa product depend on the policy guide behind it, and the guide cited throughout this page is for Bupa By You. If a quote carries a different product name, ask which guide governs it before you compare; a broker can talk you through that on a free call-back.
Why do Bupa premiums increase?
Across the market, age, claims and changes to the cover are the usual reasons a renewal price moves; how Bupa weighs them on your own renewal is worth asking when the notice arrives. Bupa renewal and why premiums go up go further.
Are Bupa dentists good?
This site does not rate practices or dentists. Bupa Dental Care is a chain of dental practices, a separate business from the insurer; reviews for the specific practice you would use, and its fee list, are the fair test.
What does Bupa business health insurance cost?
Company schemes are a different product from a personal policy, priced on the business and the staff it covers; Bupa for small businesses takes it up. As a general point, and not tax advice, cover an employer pays for usually counts as a taxable benefit in kind for the employee; health insurance and tax has the detail.
How do I get Bupa health insurance?
Either direct from Bupa, covered on getting a Bupa quote, or through a broker who can price Bupa beside other insurers.
A Bupa price is a set of choices with a number attached, so settle the choices first. When you are ready for someone to put them to Bupa and its competitors and line the figures up, a few lines in the form on this page set it going.
